Fall Field Trip: Muenster & Area

2022 FALL FIELD TRIP Saturday Sept. 17th

We will head East to Muenster to visit St. Peters Abbey & the Cathedral. On the way back we will stop at Original Humboldt and the Mt. Carmel Shrine.

8:00 AM — meet at Fas Gas – east on College Drive at intersection of Hwy 5 & 41

Drive 110 kms east on Highway 5 (north on Highway 2) then east on Hwy 5 to St. Peters Abbey Muenster SK.

10:00 AM We will meet up with Father Demetrius who will give us a tour of the Abbey and grounds

11:00 AM Drive out of the Abbey grounds and cross Hwy 5 to the Muenster Cathedral where Father Demetrius will give us a tour of St. Peters Cathedral to see the murals painted by Berthed Imhoff.

12:00 noon – Back to Abbey grounds to wander and shoot freely around the grounds: farm animals, bird house, sloughs, cemetery, stained glass, architecture, fields etc. Eat brown bag lunch

1:30 ish – Drive west on Hwy 5 for 17 kms.
Turn left on SK 669 (Telegraph Road) for 2. 8 kms.

Original Humboldt is on left. Explore the history and walk the historical journey of the First Telegraph Station and the early settlers and First Nations peoples of this area.

3:00 ish Drive North on SK 669 to Hwy 5. Left on Hwy 5 8.1 kms.
Turn right on Range Road 2233 for 7 kms to Mt. Carmel Shrine. Parking lot is on your left.

We can hike up the short hill and shoot gorgeous panoramas from the hilltop.

4:00 PM– Leave Mt. Carmel and turn right on grid – Right on Hwy 5, left on Hwy 2, right on Hwy 5 and head for Saskatoon.
More Photo Opps on the way home: There are lots of sloughs and fields rich in grain where you might spot migrating birds and waterfowl.
